A prospect says yes to a first call, and the clock starts. You have maybe two or three conversations to understand their stack, surface the real technical blockers, and produce something concrete enough that a buying committee can picture in production. Miss the discovery details and you build a proof of concept that answers the wrong question. Take too long to stand it up and a competitor's faster prototype wins the mental real estate first. That's the daily tension for solutions engineers: discovery quality and build speed pull against each other, and most tool stacks help with one or the other, not both.
This roundup covers six tools that pre-sales teams actually use to close that gap, from call intelligence platforms that capture what was really said in discovery to demo builders and workspace tools that turn notes into a working prototype. We chose tools based on how directly they support pre-sales technical validation rather than general sales enablement, whether they publish real feature and pricing information instead of a "book a demo" wall, how well they fit the discovery-to-POC workflow rather than one slice of it, and whether presales teams specifically show up in their customer base. For the fuller picture of how AI fits into a solutions engineer's day beyond this narrower phase, see our guide to AI tools for solutions engineers.
What to Look for in Technical Discovery and POC Building Tools
Before comparing individual products, it helps to know what actually separates a tool worth adopting from one that just adds another login to your day.
- Discovery fidelity — does the tool help you capture and retain what a prospect actually said about their environment, constraints, and success criteria, rather than relying on someone's memory of the call three weeks later?
- Build speed — can you go from "here's what the prospect needs" to something clickable or functional within days, not weeks of engineering time?
- Reusability — does the tool let your team turn a one-off discovery framework or POC pattern into something repeatable for the next deal, instead of starting from a blank page every time?
- Presales fit — is the product actually built with sales engineering workflows in mind, or is it a generic sales tool that happens to be usable by SEs?
- Transparent pricing — can you tell what it costs and what you get at each tier without booking a call first?
The 6 Best AI Tools for Technical Discovery and POC Building
1. Gong — call intelligence for technical discovery conversations
Gong records, transcribes, and analyzes customer calls — the closest thing here to a dedicated tool for the discovery-call half of the job. Its Revenue Graph connects call content to CRM data, and its AI agents can flag deal risk or competitor mentions mid-conversation.
- Automatically records and transcribes discovery and demo calls
- Revenue Graph links call content to account and opportunity data
- AI Trainer builds practice scenarios from real customer conversations
- Deal intelligence surfaces objections and competitor mentions from calls
Pricing: Not published. Plans are quoted per seat by team size and modules, sold through annual contracts after a demo.
Best for: Sales engineering orgs that want a systematic record of technical discovery and a way to coach new SEs on real call examples.
The tradeoff: Gong covers the conversation, not the build. For a repeatable format for the call itself, see how to prepare for a technical discovery call with AI.
2. Noumi — turn discovery notes into a working POC without a dev sprint
Noumi is a human-AI collaboration workspace, and its most relevant capability here is Light Systems: describe a workflow in plain language and it builds a working web app around it — an event page, a dashboard, a small CRM, a form flow, or a kanban board — on a real frontend and backend rather than a slideshow of screenshots.
- Light Systems generate a working app from a natural-language description, deployable via a shareable link or behind login credentials
- Persistent three-tier memory keeps discovery-call terminology, constraints, and success criteria available in later sessions
- Skills let a team save a discovery-prep checklist or POC-build routine once and reuse it on the next opportunity
- Team Projects share memory and Skills across a pre-sales team so patterns don't stay siloed
Pricing: Basic is free with 1,200 monthly credits and 1 Light System. Pro is $20/month with 2,000 credits and 2 Light Systems. Max is $100/month with 10,000 credits, 5 Light Systems, and 5 included team seats. Enterprise is custom and adds shared team memory, an admin dashboard, and a dedicated account manager — see the pricing page for details.
Best for: Solutions engineers who need to move from "here's what the prospect described" to a functioning prototype quickly, with discovery context that persists instead of getting rebuilt for every follow-up. Our walkthrough on how to build a POC fast with AI goes deeper into the build process itself.
The honest limitation: Light Systems are built for internal tools and functional prototypes, not a polished, brand-themed demo environment for hundreds of prospects at once — at that scale, a dedicated demo platform still has a role.
3. Storylane — interactive demos built specifically for presales teams
Storylane captures your product as a clickable replica and has a page built specifically for presales and SEs, setting it apart from more marketing-oriented demo tools.
- Screenshot- and HTML-based capture turns a product flow into an editable, guided demo
- HTML Demo Editor changes text, values, and elements per prospect without re-recording
- AI Content Assistant and voiceover tools speed up narrative personalization
- MCP integration lets tools like Claude build or modify demos from a written brief
Pricing: Free tier includes one published demo. Starter is roughly $50/month, Growth roughly $625/month, Premium around $1,500/month, with custom Enterprise above that.
Best for: Presales teams running the same core demo dozens of times a month who need per-account personalization without engineering support.
The limitation: Storylane recreates your product's experience rather than running your actual backend, so a buyer testing real data or an edge case still needs a live environment or a POC.
4. Walnut — presales-focused demo platform with deal-room collaboration
Walnut sits in a similar category to Storylane but leans further into enterprise presales, with a dedicated Presales area and an AI agent called Buyer Xpert that answers buyer questions inside a demo.
- AI Mode drafts a demo's screens and flow from a written description
- Interactive Deal Rooms give sellers and buyers a shared space to move a deal forward
- Sandbox demos let prospects explore freely instead of a fixed path
- Buyer Xpert answers in-demo questions and summarizes them for the rep
Pricing: Ignite starts around $575/month billed annually for 3 editor and 3 presenter seats with 50,000 AI credits a year. Accelerate runs about $1,550/month. Scale is custom.
Best for: Larger presales organizations standardizing demo storytelling and connecting it to deal-room collaboration.
Its drawback for smaller teams is cost: at these prices, Walnut suits organizations running presales at scale, not a two-person SE team standing up a quick proof.
5. Reprise — full application clones for enterprise technical proofs
Reprise takes a different approach: its Clones feature replicates your application's core functionality down to the code, creating a realistic sandbox a buyer can click through without risk to production systems.
- Full Application Cloning creates a code-level replica for safe-to-break sandboxes
- Data Injection overlays prospect-specific data onto live or cloned environments
- Reprise MCP builds demo content from customer context automatically
- Enterprise security including SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, SSO, and RBAC
Pricing: Not self-serve. Reprise's pricing page describes a single annual platform fee plus per-user licenses, quoted after a sales conversation.
Best for: Enterprise teams selling complex products where a scripted click-through isn't convincing and buyers need something closer to the real application.
The tradeoff is weight: setup, security review, and the annual-contract model make Reprise heavier than most early-stage or mid-market teams need for one opportunity.
6. Arcade — fast, lightweight demos for early discovery conversations
Arcade is built for speed rather than depth: capture a workflow from your browser or desktop and it becomes a shareable, clickable walkthrough, with a solutions page aimed at sales engineering use cases.
- Browser extension and desktop app capture product flows without engineering involvement
- AI voiceover and text-to-video turn a captured flow into a narrated walkthrough
- Arcade MCP lets AI tools help generate or edit demo content
- Free tier includes one published demo with unlimited views
Pricing: Free is $0/month with 200 AI credits. Growth is roughly $50/month per seat with 800 AI credits. Enterprise pricing is custom.
Best for: Individual SEs who need a fast, low-cost way to turn a screen recording into something interactive for an early-stage conversation, before a deal clearly warrants a full POC.
Its limitation is depth: Arcade's branching, personalization, and analytics are lighter than Storylane, Walnut, or Reprise, so it suits quick, single-purpose walkthroughs better than a multi-stakeholder enterprise demo strategy.
How to Choose the Right Tool for Your Workflow
Start with what's actually costing you time. If discovery details keep getting lost between calls, pair a call-intelligence tool like Gong with a workspace that retains context across sessions. If you're a solo SE who needs a clickable prototype without waiting on engineering, a workspace built around fast app generation and persistent memory fits better than a pure demo-recording tool. If your team runs the same demo dozens of times a month, an interactive-demo platform like Storylane or Arcade earns its cost through personalization at scale. If you're selling into enterprise accounts where buyers need something closer to your real application, Reprise's cloning approach or Walnut's deal-room features justify the heavier investment. Once the prototype is live, you'll still need to defend it — see how to handle technical objections in sales calls with AI — and our solutions engineer use cases page shows how these pieces fit together.
Common Misconceptions About AI in Technical Discovery and POC Building
A common misconception is that a slicker demo tool fixes a discovery problem — it doesn't. If the discovery call missed the prospect's actual technical blocker, no amount of polish on the demo saves the deal. Another misconception is that "building a POC" always means writing custom code. In practice, most technical proofs just need to show a workflow working end-to-end with the prospect's terminology and data shape, closer to configuration than engineering — part of why tools that generate a working app from a plain description, and features like Noumi's persistent memory, have become relevant to presales rather than just engineering teams. A third misconception is that once the POC is built, the validation work is done. Most POCs still need a clear scope document so both sides agree on what was proven — see how to write a technical scope of work with AI — and a script for presenting it well, covered in how to create a demo script with AI.

Picking the right combination usually comes down to where your team loses the most time today — in the discovery call itself, in rebuilding demo environments, or in the gap between the two. If that gap between "what the prospect needs" and "a working prototype they can click through" is your biggest bottleneck, Noumi's Light Systems and persistent memory are built for exactly that handoff — try the free Basic plan on the pricing page and see how quickly a discovery conversation turns into something a prospect can actually use.
